People in Prayer.

Sermon Notes. People in Prayer. Job

Wouldn’t it be amazing if YOUR heart was captured and captivated by a fresh vision of the Greatness, the Goodness, the Majestic power and compassion of our GOD? Our hearts would be silenced in awe and in prayer like Job!

When You think of JOB, the ONE word that comes to mind is the word? Suffering!

The whole Book of Job wrestles with the question – WHY?

WHY is a good man like Job suffering so much?

WHY do bad things happen to good people?

WHY is life so hard for us? WHY?

When You read the catalogue of Job’s suffering in Chapter One. Your heart breaks with him / for him.

What Job and what WE want is some kind of explanation from GOD, some answers to the Question – WHY?

What we get in Chapters 38 to 42 is NOT an explanation.

                BUT REVELATION from GOD.

In Chapter 38:1 GOD speaks and in the most glorious, wonderful, awesome ways in the next four Chapters.

GOD gives JOB and GOD gives US.

A REVELATION of HIMSELF in all His Goodness, His Greatness, His Majestic power and His compassion. And it is so powerful that it leaves JOB stunned and in awe and wonder, in prayer and silence.

Job 38:1-4 The Message.

‘And now, finally, God answered Job from the eye of a violent storm. He said: ‘Why do you confuse the issue? Why do you talk without knowing what you’re talking about? Pull yourself together, Job! Up on your feet! Stand tall! I have some questions for you, and I want some straight answers. Where were you when I created the earth? Tell me, since you know so much!

Job Chapter 40:3-5 The Message.

‘Job answered: ‘I’m speechless, in awe, words fail me. I should never have opened my mouth! I’ve talked too much, way too much. I’m ready to shut up and listen.’

Job Chapter 42:1-6 The Message.

Job answered God: ‘I’m convinced: You can do anything and everything. Nothing and no one can upset your plans. You asked, ‘Who is this muddying the water, ignorantly confusing the issue, second-guessing my purposes?’ I admit it. I was the one. I babbled on about things far beyond me, made small talk about wonders way over my head. You told me, ‘Listen, and let me do the talking. Let me ask the questions. You give the answers. ‘I admit I once lived by rumours of you; now I have it all first hand, from my own eyes and ears! I’m sorry, forgive me. I’ll never do that again, I promise! I’ll never again live on crusts of hearsay, crumbs of rumour.’

Like JOB when we really begin to grasp.

WHO GOD is in all HIS Glory and GOODNESS and GREATNESS and POWER.

We will end up in AWE of our GOD.

In silence before our GOD.

In Wonder of our GOD.

In Prayer – what a beautiful and what a humbling place that is – it leads us to adoration and to worship of our LORD.
