DO NOT FEAR - Matthew 10 v28-31

Sermon Notes: DO NOT FEAR. Matthew 10 v28-31

Do you ever ‘fear’ deep inside that perhaps no one cares for you – that your life is worthless – that you do not matter to anyone – not even God?

Deeply rooted fears and uncertainties – we all have them and we all struggle with them. We have fears about finances, our jobs, our futures, fears about health, our children, and deep inside us we fear that perhaps no one really does care for us.

Every ‘fear’ in our lives is at root a contradiction of the Words and Truths that God has spoken to us in the Bible.

‘Fear’ comes by hearing contradictions to God’s Word.

Faith comes by hearing the truth of God’s Word and believing it.

Believing God’s truth sets you free from your deepest fears.

‘The disciples woke Jesus and said to him, ‘Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?’ Mark 4:38

Here is God’s Truth:

‘Cast all your anxieties upon Him, for He cares for you.’ 1 Peter 5:7

‘Cast your cares upon the Lord, and He will sustain you. He will never let the righteous fall.’ Psalm 55:12

‘Praise be to the LORD, to God our Saviour; who daily bears our burdens.’ Psalm 68:19

‘The LORD said, ‘I have indeed seen the misery of my people. I have heard them crying. I am concerned about their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them.’ Exodus 3:7-8

So, what does God’s Word say to you, about God’s care for you and your preciousness to Him?

1: Do not fear: You are infinitely precious to God because He personally, lovingly, thoughtfully created you and therefore He values you.’

‘You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex. Your workmanship is marvellous and how well I know it.’ Psalm 139:13-14

‘And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.’ Matthew 10:30-31.

Q: Do you believe that? Do you really believe that your Father God cares for every little detail of your life this week? How does that help you face your fears?

Q: If God does care this much for you, why do you believe your own self-doubts and the devils lies rather than God’s truth? How will you challenge your fears with God’s truth?

2: Do not fear: You are infinitely precious to God as a person and He cares for you because He created you, in His very image, likeness and loveliness.

‘Then God said; Let us make people in our image, to be like ourselves. So God created people in His own image. God patterned them after Himself, male and female He created them.’ Genesis 1:26-27

Q: Where do you get your self-worth from? Work, buying more stuff, being religious, dressing well, pleasing other people? All of these will fail you. Can you grasp that you are precious simply because of who you are, a person shaped in the very likeness of the God who made you?

3: Do not fear: You are infinitely precious to God because He sent and He sacrificed His one and His only Son, to rescue you and restore you back into a loving friendship with Him where you belong to him forever.

‘For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver and gold that you were redeemed, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.’ 1 Peter 1:8-9

‘No man can redeem the life of another or give God a ransom for him, the ransom for a life is costly no payment is ever enough that he should live on forever and not see decay. Psalm 49:7-9

Q: Do you need to take a fresh look at the Cross to remind yourself how much you matter to God?

Q: If God sent and sacrificed His Son to save and rescue you, how have you responded? Have you taken hold of the Saviour to come into your life and take it over? Would you do that right now?
