The Woman who touched Jesus and life was never the same again.

Sermon Notes: The Woman who touched Jesus and life was never the same again. Mark Chapter 5 verse 21 to 34.

This Religious leader comes and falls at the feet of Jesus in desperation because his little girl is at death’s door, v23 ‘my little daughter is at the point of death. Please come as quickly as you can, and place your hands on her, that she may be made well and live.’ And as Jesus goes with him, it says in verse 24 that crowds follow and surrounded Jesus. In that crowd is a woman who has been ill for 12 years and has suffered much, and had spent every last penny she had in trying to get medical help, but she was still no better, v25.

This woman is hurting in so many ways, Physically, spiritually, socially and financially because of her sickness. V27, ‘She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him in the crowd.’

She doesn’t want Jesus to see her, so she comes up behind him and she reaches out her hand, and she touched the bottom of His robe.

I wonder what is going on in her mind, right now? Well it tells us in v28, ‘If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.’

She is both desperate and confidence, because she believes, she knows, if I just touch his clothes, I will be made well.’ V29, ‘Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel that she had been healed!’

For the first time in 12 years, she is free from her sickness and she can feel it. Everything changed for this woman in the very moment she touched Jesus.

1: For every hurt you have Jesus is our only HOPE!

Isn’t that the Message of Easter – HOPE. Maybe you are physically hurting at this moment. Maybe you are spiritually hurting, maybe you feel you’ve let God down or failed him, and you lack spiritual peace and reassurance in your heart and life. Maybe you are socially hurting, you’re on your own and you are lonely, struggling with depression or anxiety. Maybe you’re financially struggling, maybe you’re off work at present and it is a struggle to get through. For every hurt you have Jesus is our only HOPE! This woman knew that Jesus could do what no one else could do for her.

2: In a sea of urgent and desperate need, Jesus stops for YOU!

Jesus is on His way to help a young girl who is at death’s door, and now He’s stopping to ask, ‘who touched me?’

He is surrounded by so many people and yet He thinks about the one! Jesus stops for the one. Jesus stops for you. He loves you. Your needs and mine may not be as serve as someone else’s needs, but that’s the beauty of the passage, He cares about every single thing that you are struggling with, and you have His full attention.

Jesus is not distance from you, He is with you, He cares about you. For every hurt you have, Jesus is your only Hope and he cares for you!

3: Jesus takes you as you are, not as you wish you were.

This woman is trembling, because she knew she had defiled Jesus by touching Him, but what she didn’t realize was this was the whole purpose why Jesus came. Jesus didn’t come for the clean, he came for the dirty. Jesus didn’t come for the well He came for the sick. Jesus came not for those who think they have it altogether, He came for those who need help!

Jesus came to take our uncleanness upon Himself, so that we could be clean. Jesus came to take our shame upon Himself, so that we can receive forgiveness. Jesus came to die our death, so we could experience eternal life.

V34, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed of your disease.’

4: Let’s trust in Jesus no matter what the future holds, his peace will never pass away.

The word ‘Peace’ here means a life relationship with God himself, and it will never pass away no-matter what the future holds. Whatever happens we need to know that Jesus will prove that He is all suffice. We don’t know the future, but we do know that no matter what the future holds, His peace will never pass away – the love of Jesus will never let you down. No matter what emotions tomorrow brings – no matter what physical hurt tomorrow brings – no matter what social challenge tomorrow brings – Jesus LOVE will never let you down and His PEACE will never pass away. TRUST HIM – TRUST IN HIM. And if you trust Him, reach out your trembling hand to Him, knowing that Jesus always stops for you!
